St Andrew's Church
The Church sits high upon the hill above Winston. It is a Grade 1 Listed building, built early in the 13th century and extensively restored in 1848. It is a landmark for all around and for individuals in their life in this parish for nearly 800 years. Our vicar since 2009 is Rev Martin Jacques, who is also vicar of St Mary’s in Gainford and the Deanery Missioner.
The website www.thisbeautifullife.co.uk includes information about both churches, with links into "Martin’s blog" and "Soul Food" his weekly digest. He states that the "Church of England is to be a church for all the people … and our aim is that you will find peace with yourself, with other people and with God …". There is a Sunday service at 9.30am every week at St Andrew's which lasts about 45 minutes. This is generally a communion service but there are family services and morning prayer services from time to time. There are also more informal celebration services at other times, in the church of village hall with time to chat over some light refreshments. The social calendar includes wine tastings, ceilidhs, walks, talks, lunches and concerts etc which help to raise funds for the maintenance of the church.
We would like to welcome you to the village and wish your family every happiness and peace! Contacts:
